Our practice started out with just 3 members of staff; today we have a team of 22

Today, it’s hard to believe Bennett and Rogers started out as a single ‘going concern’ practice in 1981. However, with plenty of determination and enthusiasm, our founder Lloyd Bennett, along with just 1 optician and 1 receptionist, managed to transform the single practice into a highly recommended, trusted chain of independent opticians.

“Approaching my final set of exams prior to leaving school, I responded to a local Opticians advertising for candidates they would support during a 4 year training course. I went along to the interview not overly enthusiastic but left fascinated. I was offered a place pending my results – motivation to revise tirelessly – and the rest is, as they say, history.”

After 11 years of experience working in both the independent and multiple sectors, Lloyd decided it was time to do things his own way. He purchased our Seaton branch in 1981 and after making some dramatic improvements to the practice, he acquired his second branch just 3 years later in Budleigh.

“A particular milestone for me was when Daren Rogers started working as a locum for me in the early nineties. He subsequently became an equal shareholder; a great relationship that has lasted over 20 years and is set to continue.”
